El festival cinematográfico muestra la devoción cinéfila de la urbe escocesa
El mexicano Gael García Bernal presentará aquí su película ‘Rosewater’

Ya está en marcha la undécima edición del Festival de Cine de Glasgow, cuya gala de apertura, celebrada el pasado 18 de febrero, acogió el estreno europeo del nuevo film de Noah Baumbach, While We’re Young. A lo largo del certamen se podrán ver otros 33 estrenos de películas y documentales británicos, entre los que destacan Still Alice, con Julianne Moore,Rosewater, una película escocesa con Gael García Bernal o La Sal de la Tierra, de Wim Wenders. Force Majeure, de Ruben Östlund’s, pondrá el broche final a casi dos semanas de eventos en un festival que, pese a su corta vida, se ha convertido ya en un referente cultural británico.
La relación de amor entre el cine y Glasgow tiene pedigrí y viene de largo. En los años 30, la urbe escocesa contaba con más salas de proyección por habitante que cualquier otra ciudad del mundo. En 1939 se inauguró el Café Cosmo, el primer cine dedicado a las obras de autor fuera de Londres y realizado con un peculiar estilo art déco.
Antiguas pistas de patinaje, almacenes y hasta patios traseros de bloques de pisos fueron convertidos en salas cinematográficas. Muchas de ellas cayeron en desuso y se hundieron; otras, reconvertidas en bingos, centros comerciales, tiendas o bares mantienen aún la grandiosidad arquitectónica de una época en la que ir al cine era toda una ceremonia. Hoy Glasgow sigue siendo esa ciudad ligada al séptimo arte: recientemente sirvió de escenario a taquillazos de Hollywood como Guerra Mundial Z o and Fast & Furious 6, y por aquí pasó Scarlett Johansson para rodar Bajo la piel.

Para celebrar esta ciudad de cine, la edición del festival de este año ha dado realce a la sección Cinema City que, como en años anteriores, transportará a los cinéfilos a lugares insospechados esparcidos por todos los barrios. La imponente biblioteca Mitchell Library albergará una exposición de objetos del recuerdo aportados por los amantes del cine de la ciudad; la Queen’s Cross Church, la única iglesia diseñada por el arquitecto modernistaCharles Rennie Mackintosh, servirá de escenario para la proyección de una historia de amor.
Las actividades se extenderán por el mapa urbano. En el antiguo edificio del Gremio de Mercaderes se celebrará una fiesta tipo Cluedo para acompañar la proyección de Asesinato en el Orient Express y la Galería de Arte Moderno ofrecerá el debut escocés del Festival de Cine Felino en Internet. Esta rara cartografía festivalera se completa con museos, cervecerías y antiguos cines convertidos en discotecas o salas de conciertos donde se rinde homenaje al maridaje entre el cine y la música.
Estrenos, visitas de directores y actrices famosas, pasarelas y alfombras rojas… Aquí se mezclan los ingredientes de cualquier festival, pero lo que distingue a este certamen es la celebración de la ciudad misma, su carácter inclusivo y colectivo.

The love relationship between cinema and Glasgow has pedigree and longstanding. Ancient rinks, warehouses and even backyards blocks of flats were converted into cinemas. Many of them fell into disuse and sank; others converted into bingo, shopping centers, shops and bars still retain the architectural grandeur of an era in which cinema was a whole ceremony. Today the city Glasgow remains linked to cinema: recently served as the backdrop for Hollywood blockbusters like World War Z or and Fast & Furious 6 and Scarlett Johansson went here to roll under the skin .

To celebrate this film city, the festival this year has enhanced the Cinema City section, as in previous years, will transport moviegoers to unexpected places scattered throughout the neighborhoods. New Releases, visits directors and actresses, catwalks and red carpets … Here the ingredients of any festival mix, but what sets this festival is the celebration of the city itself, its inclusive and collective character.
