IRLANDA DEL NORTE

Irlanda del Norte (oficialmente en inglés: Northern Ireland; en irlandés: Tuaisceart Éireann) es el nombre oficial de uno de los países constituyentes del Reino Unido, que se encuentra al noreste de la isla de Irlanda conformado por 6 condados. Su capital es Belfast, que tiene 310.000 habitantes.

Limita al norte con el océano Atlántico, al este con el canal del Norte, al sureste con el mar de Irlanda, y al sur, suroeste y oeste (con 360 km de frontera) con la República de Irlanda.

Actualmente su jefa de Estado es la reina Isabel II del Reino Unido, mientras que su jefe de Gobierno es Peter Robinson, un miembro del Partido Unionista Democrático. Robinson y su partido comparten gobierno, desde el 8 de mayo de 2007, con el número dos del Sinn Féin, Martin McGuinness.

La mayoría de los católicos son nacionalistas a favor de pertenecer a la República de Irlanda, de igual manera que la mayoría de los protestantes son a favor de ser parte del Reino Unido.

Según el punto de vista ideológico, la preferencia por el nombre, tipo de entidad y la bandera de Irlanda del Norte, es diferente. Los nacionalistas la llaman “The North of Ireland” (El Norte de Irlanda),² o “los seis condados”,³ y ondean la bandera de Irlanda verde, blanca y naranja porque no reconocen Irlanda del Norte como su propio país y para ellos es parte de Irlanda. Los unionistas la llaman el Úlster, Northern Ireland (Irlanda del Norte)^{n. 1} o “la provincia”,⁴ y utilizan una bandera parecida a la de Úlster, con los colores de la bandera inglesa, llamada “Ulster Banner“.

Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland (officially in English : Northern Ireland, in Irish : Tuaisceart Éireann) is the official name of one of the constituent countries of the United Kingdom , which is located northeast of the island of Ireland consists of 6 counties. Its capital is Belfast , which has 310,000 inhabitants.

Bordered on the north by the Atlantic Ocean , on the east by the North Channel to the southeast with the Irish Sea , and south, southwest and west (360 km border) with the Republic of Ireland .

Currently the head of state is Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom , while its head of government is Peter Robinson , a member of the Democratic Unionist Party .

Robinson and his party share government since May 8th of 2007 , with the number two Sinn Fein , Martin McGuinness .

Most Catholics are nationalists in favor of belonging to the Republic of Ireland, just as most Protestants are in favor of being part of the United Kingdom.

According to the ideological point of view, the preference for the name , entity type and flag of Northern Ireland is different. The nationalists call “The North of Ireland” (Northern Ireland), or “the six counties”, and fly the flag of Ireland green, white and orange because they do not recognize Northern Ireland as its country and for them is part of Ireland. The Unionists call the Ulster, Northern Ireland (Northern Ireland) or “province”, and use a similar flag to that of Ulster , with the colors of the English flag , called the ” Ulster Banner “.
